Little Fictions was released on Polydor and Concord in February 2017, produced by Craig Potter. It is the first Elbow album without founding drummer Richard Jupp, and Alex Reeves played drums. The Hallé Orchestra and the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir took part, with strings on Magnificent (She Says) and Kindling arranged by Garvey and Nick Ingman, who also conducted. Magnificent (She Says) was the lead single in December 2016, followed by All Disco, inspired by Black Francis, and Gentle Storm. The Gentle Storm video, directed by Kevin Godley, starred Benedict Cumberbatch with the band.
It reached number one on 10 February 2017, their second chart-topper, and averages 80 on Metacritic from 19 reviews. Pitchfork's Ryan Leas gave it 7.1, said it moved more than its predecessor and named K2 the highlight.
