Play on hypersongs

Malcolm Burn, who had engineered Wrecking Ball, produced it in his own house in New Orleans, with the band playing together in one room rather than in separate booths. Eleven of the twelve songs are Harris's own or co-written, a change she called the biggest difference from her previous record; she said songwriting was still new to her and that how she did it was a mystery. Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa sing on Tragedy, Dave Matthews duets on My Antonia, and Patty Griffin, Julie Miller, Jill Cunniff and Kate McGarrigle add harmonies.

It was her first album for Nonesuch and won the Grammy for best contemporary folk album. The New York Times wrote that in songs about lonely journeys and lost companions she had found herself; the A.V. Club heard a belated sequel to Wrecking Ball. It is in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
