"Tam Lin" is a legendary ballad from the Scottish Borders about the rescue of Tam Lin by his true love, and it is Child ballad number 39 and Roud 35. Fairport's version on Liege & Lief runs 7:20. Patrick Humphries, writing in 1996, was less taken with it than with the rest of the album and called it leaden.
