Released on 4 October 2004 by Skint in the UK and a day later by Astralwerks in the US, it was nominated for the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Damon Albarn sings on Put It Back Together, the rapper Lateef the Truthspeaker appears on Wonderful Night and The Journey, and Bootsy Collins sings on The Joker. Simon Thornton plays guitar and handled mixing and engineering. It is the last Fatboy Slim studio album, and in 2019 Cook said he probably would not make another.

Reception was mixed. Metacritic gives it 53 from 24 reviews. Pitchfork's Johnny Loftus called it a quite bland big beat manifesto but praised some punchy amalgams of rock and electronic elements near its center. AllMusic's David Jeffries said it could stand one more trimming pass. Cook said it sold far fewer copies than its predecessors because of a more obscure style, and that he was happy to take his foot off the gas. The football club Brighton and Hove Albion briefly renamed its Withdean Stadium Palookaville after Skint's sponsorship deal.
