Realce closed the Re trilogy that began with Refazenda and Refavela. It was recorded at Westlake Studios and mixed at Sunset Sound, produced by Mazzola and recorded and mixed by Humberto Gatica, and distributed by WEA Discos. Steve Lukather played lead guitar on most tracks, Jerry Hey arranged the horns, and Bob Glaub and Rick Shlosser played bass and drums on the title track. Perinho Santana (electric guitar), Rubão Sabino (bass), Tuca Camargo (Fender Rhodes) and Djalma Corrêa (percussion) are also credited.
Gil wrote most of the songs. Marina is by Dorival Caymmi, and Não Chore Mais is his Portuguese version of Vincent Ford's No Woman, No Cry. On the last track, Sérgio Dias plays lead guitar, Lincoln Olivetti arranged the strings and Liminha plays bass and percussion. Toda Menina Baiana was paired with Dono do Pedaço and Samba de Los Angeles on a 1983 release.
