Master Builder
The Om Riff: a chanted invocation that turns into a groove, and the song Gong have played more than any other.

The fourth track on You, following the Magick Mother Invocation, credited like everything on the album to the whole band as COIT. It opens with chanted vowel syllables built on I-A-O, then a brief exchange in which someone asks the Master Builder how a temple is made and from what; the answer is that it needs no tools or materials and can be built invisibly, in the imagination. PopMatters heard primal percussion that develops into "a mean, Roxy-like groove", and uDiscover counts it among the album's long jazzy instrumentals with A Sprinkling of Clouds and The Isle of Everywhere.
Its riff became known as the Om Riff. Steve Hillage remade it as The Glorious Om Riff to close his 1978 album Green, produced with Nick Mason, and Acid Mothers Temple built two album-length pieces on it, the 51-minute IAO Chant from the Cosmic Inferno (2005), which Pitchfork scored 7.9, and IAO Chant from the Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out (2012). You Remixed (1997) has four versions, including one by The Shamen and one by Yamatsuka Eye.
Live
It is Gong's most played song, with 146 performances logged on setlist.fm out of 956 setlists, from the Free Trade Hall in Manchester on 23 April 1974 to Southend-on-Sea in September 2026, with 2024 the busiest year. The 2019 box adds a version from the 1974 Hyde Park free concert and one from the Marquee in 1975 after Allen had gone; the Torabi band's live album Pulsing Signals (2022) stretches it past fifteen minutes. Motorpsycho have covered it on stage. The upload in the hypersongs web is the original 1974 studio recording in Simon Heyworth's 2018 remaster, released in 2019.
