Lost in the Humming Air is the fifth track on The Pearl, credited to Eno and Budd. Eno played humming tones on a Yamaha CS-80 while Budd improvised at the piano, and the result was recorded in one take. Budd said the group had no set method, and that the album as a whole was more focused than their first. The title was later borrowed for Lost in the Humming Air, a 2012 tribute album on the Oktaf label, curated by Marsen Jules and Rafael Anton Irisarri to mark Budd's fiftieth year as a composer.
