Malibu is the fourth track on Celebrity Skin. Love wrote the lyrics, and she, Erlandson and Corgan share the music. At a 2018 concert with the Smashing Pumpkins, Love said it had first been written for Stevie Nicks. DGC released it as a single on CD in the United States on 29 December 1998, with a 7-inch following on 25 May 1999. The B-sides were Drag, an outtake that Malibu replaced on the album, and a cover of Bob Dylan's It's All Over Now, Baby Blue.

It reached number three on Modern Rock Tracks and number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100, was certified gold in Australia in 1999 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The Atlantic heard "a nice Fleetwood Mac groove", and Blender ranked it 264 in 2005 on its list of the 500 greatest songs since you were born, and third among songs about California. Paul Hunter's video was shot on a beach in Malibu with burning palm trees, and ends with Love walking into the ocean. Samantha Maloney, who had replaced Schemel, appears in it.
