Sherwood sent rhythm tracks to Andy in Jamaica, where he cut his vocals, and the files went back and forth until the songs were done. The players include Skip McDonald, Doug Wimbish, Style Scott, Crucial Tony, George Oban, Gaudi and Ivan "Celloman" Hussey.

It scored 84 on Metacritic. The Guardian gave it five stars, and AllMusic's Fred Thomas heard his singing in full focus. Bernie Brooks of The Quietus found a strange vitality in its imperfection. It reached seven on the UK Independent Albums chart, and Mojo ranked it fourth of the year. A dub companion, Midnight Scorchers, followed in September 2022.
