Wild One was written by Johnny Greenan, Johnny O'Keefe and Dave Owens, and O'Keefe's single came out on July 5, 1958. That release is considered the birth of Australian rock and roll, and it was the first Australian rock recording to reach the national charts, peaking at number 20. Pop recorded it for Blah-Blah-Blah in 1986 as Real Wild Child (Wild One). It reached number 10 in Britain in January 1987, number 27 on a Billboard rock chart, and number 1 in New Zealand in the week of June 21, 1987, his biggest hit there.

In Australia the ABC has used it since 1987 as the theme of its music video show Rage. The song was also in the film Crocodile Dundee II. Pop performed it on American Idol on April 7, 2011. In 2008 he re-recorded it as The Wild One with the Australian band Jet, a tribute to O'Keefe that peaked at number 56 on the ARIA singles chart.
