- David Spinozza
Taylor's fifth studio album was produced by David Spinozza and engineered and mixed by Harry Maslin, with photography by Richard Avedon. Paul and Linda McCartney and Carly Simon sing backing vocals, and the band includes Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, Hugh McCracken and Don Grolnick. It reached 13 and sold 300,000 copies in the US. Until Covers in 2008 it was his only studio album without a gold or platinum certification.
The title track reached 26 on the Easy Listening chart in October 1974, and Record World called it a "tall, proud mansong." The covers are Chuck Berry's The Promised Land and Ain't No Song, by Joey Levine and David Spinozza. ABC used Hello Old Friend to open its Game 3 coverage of the 1989 World Series.
