The Great Escape Artist

The fourth and final studio album, made without Avery.
Jane's Addiction, 2011

Released
18 October 2011
Label
Capitol
Producer
Rich Costey

The band began writing the album after Avery left in 2010. Duff McKagan joined for nine months, helping with the writing before he left in September 2010. Rich Costey then produced, and Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio played bass and keyboards, with Chris Chaney also on bass. Farrell recorded his vocals at his home studio and sent audio files to the others by email. The Master Musicians of Joujouka play on one track.

Capitol released it on 18 October 2011, after the singles End to the Lies, a free download, and Irresistible Force (Met the Immovable Object) on 3 August. It debuted at 12 on the Billboard 200. Stuart Berman of Pitchfork called it proficient but perfunctory. Phil Mongredien in the Observer found it still recognizably Jane's Addiction, a bombastic take on art-rock built on Navarro's guitar work.
