The song that made Chandler take Hendrix to England, and the debut single of the Experience.
Jimi Hendrix, from Are You Experienced (1966)

Are You Experienced

Billy Roberts copyrighted the song in 1962, but its authorship is disputed. Dino Valenti copyrighted it in 1963, Tim Rose claimed the arrangement of a traditional song, and Len Partridge claims he co-wrote it in Edinburgh in 1956. Earlier recordings include the Leaves in 1965 and 1966, whose version reached 31 on the Hot 100, Love in January 1966, Tim Rose in May 1966 and the Byrds in April 1966. Hendrix's slower arrangement followed Rose's single.

Chandler loved the song. Pitchfork reports that it was the first number Hendrix and the Blue Flames played for him at Cafe Wha? in New York, and that Chandler said it was going to be a hit. The Experience recorded it on 23 October 1966 at De Lane Lea, with Chandler producing and Dave Siddle engineering. The Breakaways sang backing vocals. Hendrix said of the record that it was not really the band and that the next one would be different. It came out as a single in December 1966 and reached number six in Britain. The US release on 1 May 1967 did not chart.

Live

It was the last song Hendrix played at Woodstock in 1969.
