The title track takes up all of side two of Fare Forward Voyagers. Fahey recorded it alone at United Recording in Hollywood on a 1930s Gibson Recording King, and like the rest of the album its title comes from T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets. The piece was not new: an earlier version appears as a bonus track on the 2006 reissue of The Yellow Princess. Piero Scaruffi heard it as part of Fahey's western raga.
The album was dedicated to Swami Satchidananda, though Fahey later told Byron Coley he had not believed in Krishna. He still counted it his greatest guitar record.
Live
setlist.fm logs two performances. The second, at the Record Plant in Sausalito on 9 September 1973, was broadcast on KSAN-FM and later issued as Live in Sausalito 1973, where it runs on from Thus Krishna on the Battlefield. The upload in the hypersongs web is the 1973 studio recording, as included on the 2002 CD of The Best of John Fahey 1959-1977.
