The opening track of The Yellow Princess grew from the overture to Saint-Saens's opera La Princesse jaune. Fahey wrote in the original liner notes that he once managed to copy the main theme of a passage from the overture, and that the piece was a stabilized improvisation upon it. He began it in 1954 and completed it in December 1966 in Bastrop, Louisiana. The cover painting by Charles McVicker includes images related to the song titles and liner notes as well as the clipper ship The Yellow Princess.

Mason Jones of Dusted praised March! For Martin Luther King and The Singing Bridge of Memphis, Tennessee. The 2006 CD reissue adds an earlier version of what became the title track of Fare Forward Voyagers.
