The ninth album went back to Sacred Heart, the former Catholic church in Duluth where Trust had been made. Sub Pop wrote that the band made full use of its high vaulted ceilings, natural reverb and fondness for organ and group singing. It was finished and mixed in Los Angeles, in an apartment in Hollywood. Nels Cline played guitar and lap steel, David Carroll of Trampled by Turtles banjo, and the Sparhawks' children Cyrus and Hollis sang backing vocals.
It reached 73 on the Billboard 200 and 49 in Britain, the band's best chart showing. The Observer gave it five stars, and Uncut placed it 33rd of the year. PopMatters' Ian Mathers heard their warmest and most open-hearted record, and The Quietus wrote that it asks less for your attention than for your patience. In May Sparhawk and Parker played three of its songs as a duo at NPR's Tiny Desk.
