Play on hypersongs

The longest song on The Curtain Hits the Cast, at 14:37 on CD, is credited to Sparhawk, Parker and Sally and sung by Sparhawk and Parker together. They recorded it with Steve Fisk in Seattle early in 1996, though they had already played it at Zoot's in Detroit on 3 September 1995. Stephen Thompson of the A.V. Club called it a dissonant epic, and the band's own site calls it the album's most dramatic track. Sparhawk later placed it among Low's more amorphous songs, a sound that keeps growing and changes every time they play it. The upload in the hypersongs web is the album version.

Live

On stage it stretched. A version taped on 6 November 1997 in the Church of St. Philip Neri in Louisville runs more than seventeen minutes on One More Reason to Forget (1998), and one at Schubas Tavern in Chicago that October more than 27. At Rock the Garden in Minneapolis on 15 June 2013 Low left aside The Invisible Way and played only this song, for 27 minutes, and Sparhawk closed with "Drone, not drones," a slogan he took from a friend's bumper sticker. Some people opened Twitter accounts just to complain, and Parker recalled in 2016 how angry people were. It came back on the Double Negative tours, 53 times in 2019, and setlist.fm logs 109 performances in all.

Neotropic remixed it for owL Remix (1998), and Midwife and Amulets covered it on the tribute Your Voice Is Not Enough in 2024.
