Mentira is the fourth song on Previsão do Tempo, written by Marcos and Paulo Sérgio Valle and running 3:40. It became popular after it was used in the TV Globo telenovela Carinhoso in 1973. Will Hermes of Rolling Stone compared it to Stevie Wonder's Superstition, and Thomas Fawcett of The Austin Chronicle called it the hazy sing-song funk that none of the album's other grooves beat.
Afterlife
The band Planet Hemp sampled the original recording in 2000 for Contexto, credited to Marcelo D2, BNegão, Black Alien, Rafael Crespo and Zé Gonzalez. Mauro Ferreira of G1 noted this came 27 years after the song was heard on television. Mentira is the second most played song in Valle's setlist.fm data, after Estrelar, and he played it at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles on 26 July 2026.
