Valle recorded Previsão do Tempo at Odeon Studios in Rio de Janeiro in 1973, with the jazz-funk trio Azymuth as his band. Many of Paulo Sérgio Valle's lyrics carry veiled political commentary about military rule and censorship. On the cover a bearded Valle floats underwater, which stands for the shortness of breath of Brazilians under the regime. Milton Miranda produced, and José Roberto Bertrami, Valle and Waltel Branco are credited with arranging, orchestrating and conducting.

Os Ossos do Barão was the theme of a telenovela of the same name, and Mentira was heard on the novela Carinhoso. The album produced no big hit at the time. Não Tem Nada Não was Valle's first collaboration with João Donato, credited also to Eumir Deodato, and the closing De Repente, Moça Flor echoes the title of Moça Flor from his debut. Light in the Attic reissued the album in the United States in 2013 and Polysom put it back on LP in 2018.

John Bush of AllMusic gave it five stars and called it a masterpiece. Will Hermes of Rolling Stone called it a pop-rock-samba-jazz gem, the funkiest in a four-disc Marcos Valle series, and compared Mentira to Stevie Wonder's Superstition. The Austin Chronicle's Thomas Fawcett praised the hazy sing-song funk of Mentira, and Ernest Barteldes of Newcity thought the combination of Valle's Fender Rhodes and Bertrami's Hammond nothing short of genius. In the Discoteca Básica poll of Brazilian albums it ranked 142nd.
