Boom, Like That was the first single from Shangri-La and is its second track. Knopfler was inspired by Ray Kroc's autobiography Grinding It Out, which covers the start of McDonald's, and the song uses many of Kroc's exact words.

It reached number 34 in the UK. With Darling Pretty it is one of only two Knopfler solo singles to reach the UK top 40. The CD single added Summer of Love, and the maxi CD and the 7 inch added a live Who's Your Baby Now.
