The band's own discography subtitles it a torn caricature of salsa and tropical music. Álvarez said the idea grew from African salsa, which struck him as more melodic than the salsa heard in Bogotá, and that in the studio he tried to emulate the Puerto Rican and New York salsa sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He borrowed the Cali habit of playing records faster than normal for dancers, along with a changing of voices, and ran around thirty effects across software and hardware. Looking back in 2022, he described it as salsa that still carried some psychedelia.
Álvarez played every instrument, recorded and mastered it himself at Isaac Newton, his home studio in a wooden attic. The Colombian CD on La Distritofónica has eight tracks in a different order. Soundway's edition opens with Guaracha U.F.O. and adds Soy el Pinchadiscos del Amor from VII, and its LP comes with a download of two bonus tracks. The cover is a painting by Birthe Lindhardt. Songlines gave it four stars for its blend of danceable rhythm, adventure and humour, Sounds and Colours gave it five as psychedelic salsa, and Rough Trade called it the group's first fully fledged worldwide release.
