Simon first heard of Ladysmith Black Mambazo on a British television special. The song was not planned for the album. After Simon, Ladysmith and South African players were in New York for Saturday Night Live in May 1986, he and Roy Halee decided to record it, and Ladysmith sang their part about a week later. The group's Zulu opening says that such things are unusual but do happen and that women can take care of themselves, and the English verses tell of a rich girl and a poor boy. Youssou N'Dour is among the percussionists, with horns from Lenny Pickett, Earl Gardner and Alex Foster.
It was the album's fourth single, in April 1987, and Cash Box found it sweet and graceful. Simon and Ladysmith performed it on Saturday Night Live in November 1986 and in Harare in February 1987. It became one of his five most played songs, then dropped out of his sets for more than six years before closing the main set at the Hollywood Bowl on 7 June 2026. Ladysmith recorded it again in 2006. The upload in the hypersongs web is the official video.
