Recorded at the band's own Britannia Row Studios with engineer Brian Humphries, it reached number 2 in Britain and number 3 in the United States, and went four times Platinum there. A giant pig balloon used for the cover shoot at Battersea Power Station broke loose, drifted over Heathrow and landed in Kent. Years later the Edge of U2 said he bought his first delay pedal after hearing Dogs.

Dogs began in 1974 as You've Got to Be Crazy and was played on the 1974 and 1975 tours before it was recorded for the album.
