Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age
The fifth album, with the group's only American top 40 single.
Public Enemy, 1994
- Released
- 23 August 1994
- Label
- Def Jam
The title is a reverse mondegreen of music in our message. Def Jam released it on 23 August 1994, with a cover by Mark Texeira. It debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with 56,000 copies sold in the first week, and went gold in October. The first single, Give It Up, peaked at 33 on the Hot 100, the group's only American top 40 hit. Def Jam moved from Sony Music to PolyGram before the release, which hurt sales, and negative reviews in Rolling Stone and The Source appeared a month before the sales week.
Other notices were warmer. Q gave it four stars and Melody Maker called it a stunning return to form, while NME placed it 20th among its albums of 1994.
