Acoustic Classics

Acoustic Classics collects solo acoustic versions of songs from Thompson's catalogue, both his own and those of Richard and Linda Thompson. He said it was conceived as something to sell at acoustic shows, because he had nothing that represented a solo concert. It came out on his own Beeswing label via Proper on 21 July 2014 in the UK and 22 July in the US, and reached number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. It includes his first solo studio version of Persuasion, which he wrote with Peter Filleul and Tim Finn wrote the words for. Beeswing is track 12, at 5:42.

Reviews were mostly positive. Martin Chilton of the Daily Telegraph praised the guitar flourishes, while Neil Spencer in the Guardian felt most of the pieces were best heard in their original form. Colin Irwin of Mojo found a certain magic in hearing the songs in such intimate form, and Metacritic scored it 76 out of 100. A sequel, Acoustic Classics II, reached number 24 in 2017.
