Manifesto was released on 1 March 1979 on Polydor, the first Roxy Music album after the 1978 reunion. Paul Carrack joined on keyboards, with Alan Spenner and Gary Tibbs on bass. Ferry wrote the songs. Manzanera co-wrote the title song, Trash, Still Falls the Rain and My Little Girl, and Mackay co-wrote Angel Eyes. Rhett Davies was among the engineers.
Pitchfork's Tom Ewing wrote that the glowering, compelling title track promises a meaner and darker band than the band ever quite delivered. The Guardian's Malcolm Jack, reviewing the 2022 tour, heard in its chorus and electro-disco beat the origins of every New Romantic band.
