Do the Strand opens For Your Pleasure and runs 4:00. Pitchfork's Rob Tannenbaum wrote that Ferry wrote it, along with Editions of You, after sharing bills on the US tour for the debut with Humble Pie, whose up-tempo boogie stirred him to write the album's most raucous songs. He called the pair models for the ferocity of punk rock. Paul Gambaccini of Rolling Stone, who called the album remarkably inaccessible, praised the song, and the biographer David Buckley believed it was the song the band played most often in concert.
It was released as a single in the US and Europe in 1973, backed with Editions of You. It was finally issued as a UK single in 1978 to promote the Greatest Hits album. A live version, 3:50, is on Viva! Roxy Music, and it was among the closing songs of the 2022 anniversary tour set reviewed by the Guardian.
