Love Is the Drug opens Siren and runs 4:05 on the original LP. Ferry and Mackay wrote it, and Chris Thomas produced the album. Released as a single, it reached number 2 on the UK chart and number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, the band's highest-charting single in the United States.

Robert Christgau wrote that, although Roxy Music albums had always had hooks, Street Life and Virginia Plain never told listeners as much about the band's less accessible music as Love Is the Drug did. In the Guardian's review of the 2022 anniversary tour, Malcolm Jack called it a soaring anthem and a forerunner of punk-funk. It was part of the closing run of the set, alongside Editions of You, Jealous Guy, Virginia Plain and Do the Strand.
