Out-Bloody-Rageous is an instrumental composed by Ratledge. Parts of it use repetitive multi-tracked electric piano figures in a style inspired by the work of Terry Riley. With Slightly All the Time, it is one of the most straightforward pieces on the album and represents the jazz-rock sound the band went on to explore on later records. Hastings on flute and bass clarinet and Evans on trombone appear on it.
The title gave its name to the 2005 band biography Soft Machine: Out-Bloody-Rageous and to a two-CD anthology of 1967 to 1973 issued the same year. A live Out-Bloody-Rageous opens the Proms disc that was added to the 2007 reissue of Third, at 11:57.
