The second album was recorded on four-track and released on Sedimental as a limited white vinyl LP in 1996, hand-numbered and limited to 709 copies. The band said the copies arrived with distortion, giant pops and surface noise louder than the recording. The plant repressed them, but the duo stayed unhappy with the fidelity. A Kranky CD in October 1997 added Jan. 69, a track the band called a throw-away from 1992.

Pitchfork's Andy Beta reviewed the vinyl reissue in 2018, 22 years on, and wrote that the album was informed, as Wiltzie recalled, by blistering heat and massive drugs and depression. He described the 19-minute Cantus; In Memory of Warren Wiltzie as dark and submerged, and noted that Lactate's Moment blends distant drones, sampled strings, e-bowed guitar swells and sine waves, before the elegiac closer Be Little With Me. AllMusic's Nitsuh Abebe compared the atmosphere to a sensory deprivation tank.
