The Royal Scam

Engineer Elliot Scheiner asked for time off during the sessions to fly to Haiti, where he could get a divorce quickly, and his lawyer had told him to do it before year's end for tax reasons. Becker and Fagen pressed him for details, and after his return they asked him to recount the trip. With fictional elements added, it became the song.

It was issued as a single only in the UK, where it reached 17, the highest chart position of any Steely Dan single outside the United States.
