High is the fourth and last studio album by the band. Its single I Would Never came out a week before the album, and She Saw the World was made available as a promotional single but never officially released. All nine songs are credited to Paul Buchanan. Versions of Soul Boy had already been released by Edyta Gorniak in 1997 and Melanie C in 2003.
It reached 10 in the UK on the chart of 11 September 2004, their first Top 10 album, and spent three weeks in the Top 75. Confetti Records reissued it in 2020, when it charted at 74, with bonus tracks including the unreleased Wasted, I, Big Town and Here Come the Bluebirds.
Reviews were generally favourable, and many critics rated it above Peace at Last. The Guardian said it joined that record's emotional commitment to the observational detachment of the earlier work. Stylus said it sounds exactly as you would expect a fourth Blue Nile album to sound, and the Observer found its landscapes a little predictable.
