Ark of the Covenant is the ninth song on Heart of the Congos, written by Myton and Johnson. The 1978 mix runs 6:18 and has Perry's mooing cow sounds, while the original mix on the third disc of VP's 2017 set runs only 3:24 and lacks the cow.

A 1977 Black Art single of the song carried a Perry dub on the B side, which Blood and Fire later issued as Noah Sugar Pan. Pitchfork's 200 best songs of the 1970s sent readers who liked Fisherman on to this song, and Andy Beta, reviewing Icon Give Thank, named it as an example of the album's majesty. It is among the Congos' most played songs on setlist.fm, logged seven times.
