The Pogues, 1986

Released

Producer
Elvis Costello
Type
ep

The EP reached number 29 in the UK, the band's first top 40 hit, and was the first Pogues recording to feature Philip Chevron and Terry Woods. It holds London Girl, A Rainy Night in Soho, The Body of an American and Planxty Noel Hill. Tommy Keane played uilleann pipes, Henry Benagh fiddle, Dick Cuthell flugelhorn, and Fiachra Trench arranged the strings. The US and Canadian releases carry a slightly longer mix of A Rainy Night in Soho with oboe in place of flugelhorn. The Guardian wrote that glittering strings, stately piano and genteel flugelhorn give that song an aura of sophistication. The EP was added in full to the 2005 reissue of Rum Sodomy & the Lash.
