Recording began in February 2006 and ended in November 2008. Howlett conceived the direction as a mashup of the earlier albums, and the band's own newsletter promised a return to their old-school but cutting-edge roots. It came out on Take Me to the Hospital, distributed by Cooking Vinyl, and was the first Prodigy record since The Fat of the Land to feature all three of Howlett, Maxim and Flint. James Rushent of Does It Offend You, Yeah? co-produced Invaders Must Die and Omen, and Dave Grohl played drums on Run with the Wolves and Stand Up.

The title track was given away as a free download on 26 November 2008. Omen reached number 4 in the UK and Warrior's Dance number 9. The album entered the UK chart at number 1 with first-week sales above 97,000. Howlett later called it more of a celebration, a sign that the band had come back together.
