Howlett wrote and recorded much of the album on tour, in hotel rooms and on flights, as well as in the band's studio at Tileyard in London, and it was mixed at SARM. The title refers to Cole Porter's All Through the Night, which has the line about the day being an enemy and the night a friend, though it was Ella Fitzgerald's version that first inspired the title track. The track was the last to be produced and grew from a guitar riff by Olly Burden. Martina Topley-Bird sings on it, and the Swiss drum corps Top Secret Drum Corps plays live drums. Howlett told Spin he had recorded her vocal about four years earlier on another track and kept it for the right moment.

Ibiza, with Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods, is aimed at superstar DJ culture. Howlett said violent was the word that kept coming up for the album. NME called it the strongest and most confident Prodigy album since The Fat of the Land, and Kerrang! gave it its highest rating. It entered the UK chart at number 1.
