The EP, subtitled "Kids Don't Follow" Plus Seven, was recorded on 13 March 1982 and released on 24 June. Before the first track, a recording can be heard of Minneapolis police breaking up a rent party at the Harmony Building on 29 January 1982. Rhino reissued the EP in 2008 with four additional tracks. You're Getting Married is a solo Westerberg recording made on a boombox in the basement of his parents' house in South Minneapolis.
The first three pressings, of 2,000, 1,500 and 1,500 copies, came in hand-stamped white jackets. Writing in the Guardian in 2015, Michael Hann called it "pretty much their last gasp as a punk band."
