Can't Hardly Wait

The Memphis closer with Alex Chilton on guitar, which lent its name to a film.

Pleased to Meet Me

It closes Pleased to Meet Me. Alex Chilton plays guitar fills on it, Jim Dickinson plays keyboards, the Memphis Horns (Andrew Love on tenor sax and Ben Cauley on trumpet) and the strings of Max Huls fill it out, Westerberg adds harmonica and six-string bass, and Tommy Stinson plays acoustic guitar and fills. Michael Hann wrote in the Guardian that the song was recorded again and again with different lyrics, and that the version released was the one cut for Pleased to Meet Me with horns and strings. He preferred the earlier version recorded for Tim, which came out on All for Nothing/Nothing for All.

Pitchfork's Pleased to Meet Me review calls it a "coulda-shoulda-been hit single." It says the producer Jimmy Iovine took a stab at remixing it and that none of the album's four singles gained meaningful traction. The 1998 teen comedy Can't Hardly Wait took its title from the song, which plays over the closing credits.
