Steve Albini recorded the album at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago in October 2006, and it was mastered at Abbey Road in December. It was the first Stooges album of new material since Raw Power in 1973 and the last with Ron Asheton. Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton were joined by Mike Watt on bass, with Steve Mackay returning on saxophone. Brendan Benson sang backing vocals on Free & Freaky. My Idea of Fun and Free & Freaky were released as singles on the iTunes Store on 20 February 2007.
Metacritic gave it a score of 44. Pitchfork rated it 1.0 out of 10, saying it hideously disgraces the band's original work, while BBC Music called it entertaining, exuberant and fun. By 2009 it had sold over 30,000 copies in the United States.
