Darrell Digga Branch started the instrumental two or three years before the album, while working with the Diplomats. It was then offered to Nas, who recorded vocals over it but never finished the song. Cam'ron introduced 50 Cent to Digga, and 50 Cent recorded his vocal in Sha Money XL's basement. Sha Money took the recording to Detroit, where he and Eminem spent a week or two mixing it and adding sound effects, and Luis Resto contributed a guitar part. Digga, Eminem and Resto are credited as producers.
Jessy Terrero directed the video. Alexis Petridis of the Guardian called it the stand-out track in 2003, and Rolling Stone wrote that its sense of impending doom rings clearer than it would from any other rapper. 50 Cent has said it nearly missed the album because of its tempo, and in a later interview called it his least favorite on the record because it is the slowest.
Though only a promotional single, it reached number 11 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart in 2003. Billboard counted 410,000 copies sold by 2013. The RIAA certified it gold in 2006 and three times platinum in 2023. Pop Smoke interpolated it on Got It on Me in 2020, and Metro Boomin and 21 Savage sampled it on a track also called Many Men.
