The Graveyard and the Ballroom
A cassette-only album of a studio side and a live side on Factory.
A Certain Ratio, 1980
- Released
- January 1980
- Label
- Factory
- Producer
- Martin Hannett
- Length
- 45:38
- Type
- live
Side one was recorded at Graveyard Studios in September 1979 and side two live at the Electric Ballroom in October 1979. Wikipedia credits Martin Hannett, but Electronic Sound says the Graveyard Studio, in Stewart Pickering's basement, was self-run, so the producer credit for that side is disputed. It was cassette-only on Factory with a Saville cover, and was reissued on CD by Creation in 1994 and by Mute in 2017. "Shack Up" is not on it.
AllMusic judged it accomplished enough to be intriguing, but never all that gripping; Trouser Press called it an exciting and original post-punk dance record.
