Water From An Ancient Well

A short piece, 2:41 on Water From An Ancient Well, which Scott Yanow of AllMusic called the beautiful The Wedding. The Guardian's John Fordham, reviewing Ibrahim's 2008 Barbican concert with the BBC Big Band, called it a classic theme, and noted Ian Shaw's falsetto soul account of it just before Ibrahim's closing piano reverie.

Lester Kiewit wrote after Ibrahim's death that it was one of his favorite compositions, and that he heard Ibrahim play it at a Cape Town concert at the Maynardville open-air theater. Darius Brubeck & the Nu Jazz Connection recorded Ibrahim's Mannenberg and The Wedding together as one track on African Tributes.
