Live! Bootleg
A double live album made to sound like a bootleg, with the hiss left in.
Aerosmith, 1978

- October 1978

- Jack Douglas
- Type
- live
Most of the performances come from concerts in 1977 and 1978. Two covers, I Ain't Got You and Mother Popcorn, were taken from a radio broadcast of a Boston show on 20 March 1973. Jack Douglas had recorded several 1978 concerts for radio, and the band's management asked him to compile the album to compete with the bootlegs. The packaging imitates a bootleg, and the track listing is deliberately wrong: Draw the Line plays as a hidden track after Mother Popcorn. It also holds the first record appearance of Richie Supa's Chip Away the Stone and one of the band's first live performances of the Beatles' Come Together.
Perry said a couple of tracks were taped off the air onto cassette, and the band kept the hiss because it was real. Columbia, he said, wanted a clean sound, and he doubted the label ever understood the idea. Slash of Guns N' Roses called it one of the most underrated albums of all time.
