The Light

Recorded for Capitol in 1988 as Afrika Bambaataa and Family, with guests including Nona Hendryx, UB40, Boy George, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins and Yellowman. John Robie co-produced the disco side and Bill Laswell the funk side. Christgau graded it a B and described it as a great DJ trying to reproduce the anything-funky atmosphere of his parties, from go-go to reggae to disco to rap. He picked out Reckless, with UB40, Something He Can Feel, by Nona Hendryx and Boy George, and World Racial War.
