Omaha was one of five singles released from Moby Grape, and reached number 88 in the United States and number 87 in Canada. The Guardian's obituary says that when Spence was asked the title of the song, he replied 'Omaha' off the top of his head, and that there was no connection. Rolling Stone placed it at number 95 on its 2008 list of the 100 greatest guitar songs, describing a three-way guitar battle between Jerry Miller, Peter Lewis and Spence for two and a quarter minutes. Writing in 1967, Paul Williams of Crawdaddy! called it the toughest cut on the album.
Uncut says the Golden Palominos, with Michael Stipe as guest vocalist, covered it in 1985.
