Raghupati is an adaptation of an Indian folk song, arranged by Shankar and Paul Lewinson, and Shankar sings on it. James Lowe recalled that ten of Shankar's friends came into the studio, sat in a semi-circle and supplied the chanted chorus. Unterberger singled it out as a highlight whose chants and relatively chunky beat made it the most accessible piece, and AllMusic's Jon Pruett called the chant the unexpected highlight of the album. Nate Rabe of Scroll named it his personal favourite of all of Shankar's compositions.
