Record World called it a very pleasing, beautifully orchestrated lp/fable that ought to please English rock fans and children alike, and Paul Stump later praised its innocent and idiosyncratic delicacy and called it the template for nearly all Phillips's solo work. AllMusic gave it three stars. It was reissued by Virgin in 1990, by Voiceprint in April 2008 and, in a Definitive Edition with a 5.1 mix and a poster of Peter Cross's drawings, by Esoteric on April 7, 2015. Simon Heyworth, who engineered Tubular Bells, received a producer credit.
