Bart Howard wrote the song in 1954 under the title In Other Words, and Kaye Ballard made the first recording that year. She sang it with Baker in a San Francisco jazz club, where he announced that a very special young lady was in the audience and asked her to join him. They performed it as a bossa nova, and she described the trumpeter as an idol.
Her recording of the song was used on the soundtrack of the 2003 film Down with Love, alongside Frank Sinatra's version.
