The song first appeared as Vôo Sobre o Horizonte, the opening track of Águia Não Come Mosca in 1977, a version of under four minutes with vocalists Angela Herz, Marcio Lott and Paraná credited on the album. TV Globo used it that year in the novela Locomotivas as the theme for the show's beauty salon, and it was included on the soundtrack album. Songlines later dismissed that recording as hold music with added synth.

For Light as a Feather the trio recorded it again at Studio Sonoviso, at nearly six minutes, and it took the English title Fly Over the Horizon for the first time. It became the B-side of the Jazz Carnival single in December 1979. Lance Ferguson covered it on a 7-inch for Freestyle Records.

Live

Azymuth have played it on stage under various spellings, among them in Hamburg in 2023 and at Blue Note Rio in 2025, and it closed their shows in Curitiba in January 2026 and Barcelona in September 2026. The upload in the hypersongs web is the 1979 Light as a Feather version, a fan upload set to a timelapse of a bus ride from Rio de Janeiro up the mountains to Teresópolis.
