The band was joined by the Barclay James Harvest Symphony Orchestra, led by Gavyn Wright, with Godfrey as conductor and musical director, and Alan Parsons is credited with jaw harp on "Lady Loves". Lees played John Lennon's Epiphone Casino on "Galadriel". "White Sails" was dropped after an orchestral arrangement was recorded and judged unusable, and "Ball and Chain" replaced it. AllMusic gave it three and a half stars, and a 2005 Q and Mojo special ranked it number 39 in 40 Cosmic Rock Albums. An Esoteric box with a new stereo mix and 5.1 mixes appeared in 2023. It did not chart in the UK.
